The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the establishment of new Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) operational bases in three strategic locations across the country as part of efforts to strengthen national security and enhance rapid response to emerging threats.
The newly approved CTU bases will be located in Madagali, Ikot Odo, and Ode-Remo.
Security sources said the move is aimed at boosting the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in tackling terrorism, insurgency, and other violent crimes across different regions of the country.
In addition to the establishment of the new bases, the IGP has also approved the deployment of additional CTU personnel nationwide to improve rapid response capability and expand operational coverage.
The deployment is expected to strengthen intelligence-driven policing and ensure quicker intervention during security emergencies.
Security analysts say the decision underscores the renewed commitment of the police leadership to reinforce counter-terrorism architecture and safeguard communities amid evolving security challenges across the country.
