Benin Coup Leader Flees to Lomé as Togo’s President Holds Late-Night Talks With Niger Junta

Fresh intrigue is unfolding across West Africa after sources confirmed that Pascal Tigri, the alleged mastermind of Benin’s failed coup attempt, has fled across the border into Lomé, the Togolese capital.

Tigri’s sudden disappearance from Benin comes as regional intelligence networks track movements linked to the abortive plot that briefly rattled Cotonou’s political establishment.

Adding to the tension, Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé reportedly made an unannounced trip to Niamey late last night, where he is said to have held private talks with Niger’s junta leader, Gen. Abdourahamane Tiani.
The purpose of the meeting remains unclear, but observers note the timing raises questions about shifting alliances and behind-the-scenes negotiations in the aftermath of the failed coup.

Neither Togo nor Niger has publicly commented on the visit, while Benin continues to investigate how the attempted takeover was coordinated — and how its leader managed to slip across the border.

As the region waits for clarity, the political chessboard in West Africa appears to be moving once again.
