Bandits have attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing the school’s Deputy Principal and abducting at least 25 female students.

The attack occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Monday, when the armed men stormed the school premises and headed straight to the students’ hostel. Witnesses said the gunmen fired shots into the air to scare residents before gaining access to the compound.

During the invasion, the Deputy Principal, Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was shot and killed. A security staff member, identified as Ali Shehu, sustained gunshot injuries.

Police authorities confirmed that 25 schoolgirls were taken away by the attackers. The Kebbi State Police Command said the gunmen arrived with “sophisticated weapons” and engaged security personnel in a gun duel before escaping with the students.

Following the incident, police operatives, soldiers, and vigilante groups have been deployed to the area and are currently combing surrounding forests in pursuit of the kidnappers. Military aircraft were also seen hovering over the community in the early hours of the morning as part of the search operation.

The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Umar Abubakar Tafida, visited the school to assess the situation and assure parents that efforts to rescue the abducted students are ongoing.

Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi urged residents to remain calm and support security agencies with useful information as the rescue mission continues.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the situation develops.
