….Ex-Sokoto Governor Backs Tinubu, Ahmed Aliyu Ahead of 2027
Former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), delivering a major political boost to the ruling party in the North-West.
Bafarawa, a two-term governor and one of Sokoto’s most influential political figures, said his decision was driven by his admiration for the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly the President’s bold economic reforms aimed at stabilising and repositioning Nigeria’s economy.
He also praised the “excellent and people-centred leadership” of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, noting that the current administration has restored confidence in governance and is delivering tangible dividends of democracy across the state.
Speaking after his formal entry into the APC, Bafarawa declared that the party offers the most credible platform for national and state development, stressing that the direction of the Tinubu-led Federal Government aligns with his long-held vision for progress, unity and good governance.
The former governor went further to pledge his full political support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Aliyu ahead of the 2027 general elections, promising to mobilise his vast grassroots network to ensure their re-election.
Political observers say Bafarawa’s defection could significantly reshape Sokoto’s political landscape, strengthening the APC’s base and setting the stage for intense realignments as 2027 draws closer.
With this move, one of Sokoto’s political heavyweights has firmly pitched his tent with the ruling party — a development that underscores the growing momentum of the APC in the North-West.
