Yobe Shuts All Boarding Schools Over Security Concerns

By: Abdullahi Inuwa

The Yobe State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all boarding secondary schools across the state in what officials describe as a proactive step to protect students amid rising security threats in parts of the country.

The directive comes after Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, met with heads of security agencies in Damaturu to assess emerging risks, particularly attacks on educational institutions in neighbouring states.

In a notice issued late Friday and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Bukar Aji Bukar, all boarding schools were instructed to close with immediate effect, pending an improvement in the security situation.

Government officials say the decision, though difficult, is aimed at preventing any potential danger to schoolchildren and ensuring that learning can safely resume once threats subside.

Governor Buni appealed to residents to remain calm and continue praying for peace, stability, and protection for security operatives working tirelessly across the country.

“Let us pray for our leaders, our security agencies, and for improved peace and security in Nigeria,” the governor urged.

The statement was signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.
