FRSC Katsina Holds Special Marshals Retreat, Charts New Path for Safer Roadsq

— Stakeholders Stress Security, Teamwork, and Intelligence-Driven Operations

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina State Command, on Monday, November 10, 2025, successfully held a one-day Special Marshals Retreat and Workshop at the Special Marshals Conference Hall in Katsina, bringing together senior officers, Special Marshals, and key stakeholders to deliberate on the theme: “Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshal Operations.”

Declaring the event open, Hon. Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, Chief Judge of Katsina State, lauded the FRSC’s consistent commitment to promoting safety and orderliness on Nigerian roads. He praised the Special Marshals for their voluntary service and patriotism, describing them as “vital partners in national safety and civic responsibility.”

Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. Sani Ibrahim Yar’adua, State Coordinator of Special Marshals, emphasized the retreat as a strategic platform for capacity building, professional reawakening, and operational synergy. He said the initiative was part of efforts to strengthen coordination among Special Marshals across the state.

Representing the National Coordinator, Engr. Adaji Usman, FCILG, the Zonal Coordinator, SM Usman, commended the Katsina Command for its consistency in organizing impactful training programs. He reaffirmed the National Headquarters’ commitment to enhancing Special Marshal operations through improved welfare, training, and collaboration.

Delivering the keynote address, Corps Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, the Sector Commander, RS1.3 Katsina State Command, noted that the retreat aimed to “routinely reawaken, retool, and reposition Special Marshals toward promoting safer transport through enhanced security consciousness, improved intelligence, and strategic enforcement.”

He highlighted the relevance of the theme, noting the growing intersection between national security and road safety. “The safety of our Marshals is as vital as the safety of the motoring public we serve,” he said, adding that every operation must prioritize both road safety and personal security.

Commander Lede reaffirmed the FRSC’s alignment with the global target of reducing road traffic fatalities by 50% before 2030 through the Safe System Approach, emphasizing proactive planning, education, and enforcement as key pillars.

The retreat’s technical session featured two scholarly presentations. Chief Route Commander Ezekiel Jani Bunu presented a paper on “Challenges Affecting Road Safety Operations and Strategies for Enhancing Security and Safety,” emphasizing risk-based thinking and the role of stakeholders in sustaining road safety systems.

Similarly, Dr. Usman Isa advocated for a multi-sectoral, data-driven approach to road safety management, highlighting the importance of community participation, intelligence-sharing, and coordinated enforcement to minimize risks.

Participants engaged actively in discussions on critical issues, including the challenges facing road safety operations, stakeholder collaboration, and the integration of intelligence into traffic management. The session was praised for its depth, interactivity, and practical insights.

 

The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to participants, marking their contribution to the success of the retreat and reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to continuous capacity development.

By the end of the retreat, participants departed with renewed zeal and commitment to the FRSC’s vision of ensuring a Nigeria where road traffic crashes cause no deaths or serious injuries.

The 2025 FRSC Katsina Special Marshals Retreat was widely described as a resounding success — a timely reawakening of purpose, strategy, and collaboration in the quest for safer roads across Katsina State and beyond
