Troops rescue six kidnapped victims during operations in Plateau

JOS — Troops of Sector 2, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have rescued six kidnapped victims during separate encounters with suspected terrorists in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that at about noon on Oct. 6, troops deployed at Kukawa responded to information on the movement of suspected terrorists towards Wanka Village in Wase LGA.

The troops’ swift intervention forced the terrorists to flee on motorcycles. During exploitation of the area, the troops rescued two kidnapped victims who had been abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The victims were identified as 14-year-old Muhammed Jibo and 12-year-old Muhammed Yahaya. They told the troops that they were kidnapped on Sept. 6 while on their way to meet their father at a farm in Dadin Kowa Village, Kanam Local Government Area.

In a separate operation at about 11:00 a.m. the same day, troops deployed at Yuli on fighting patrol made contact with suspected terrorists on the outskirts of Yuli Village in Wase LGA.

During the encounter, the terrorists abandoned four kidnapped victims and fled into the forest.

The rescued victims were identified as Yakubu Yahaya, 25; Yahuza Dapji, 22; Yahaya Jibo, 20; and Sani Abubakar, 18, all from Dadin Kowa Village in Kanam LGA.

The four victims were handed over to the Village Head of Yuli for further necessary action.

Troops have continued offensive operations and routine patrols across the OPEP Joint Operations Area to safeguard schools, communities and other critical national infrastructure.

The morale and fighting efficiency of the troops remain satisfactory.
