Fresh violence has been reported in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where suspected members of a Mwaghavul militia group allegedly carried out two separate attacks targeting Fulani herders and their livestock.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that one of the incidents occurred around Lamor, near Lawet, where a Fulani herder was reportedly killed by unidentified attackers.
The attackers were also said to have targeted cattle belonging to the herders, with several animals reportedly killed or taken away during the incident.
However, the exact number of cattle affected could not be independently established as of the time of filing this report.
In another incident, Fulani residents and their livestock were reportedly attacked around the Takas area of Mangu.
Security sources attributed the attack to suspected members of a Mwaghavul militia group, although the circumstances surrounding the incident and the identities of those involved were still being investigated.
The twin incidents have reportedly renewed tension across affected communities, with residents increasingly concerned about the possibility of further attacks and reprisals.
Mangu has in recent years witnessed recurring violence involving farming and herding communities, with disputes over land, cattle rustling, attacks and retaliatory killings contributing to insecurity in several rural settlements.
The latest incidents have further raised concerns about the safety of vulnerable farming and pastoral communities, particularly those living in isolated areas where security presence remains limited.
Security authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the reported attacks.
