Farmer Found Dead After Failing to Return Home in Plateau

A 48-year-old farmer, identified as Mr Marcus Yakubu, has been found dead in Kassa Village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, after he reportedly failed to return home from his farm.

Yakubu’s body was discovered on a high ground in the community on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, prompting the intervention of troops operating under Sector 4 of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP).

Security sources said the troops were alerted at about 8:38 a.m. following reports that a corpse had been found in the area.

Upon arrival, the troops reportedly confirmed the deceased as Yakubu, who had left his residence a day earlier, September 15, to attend to farming activities but did not return home as expected.

His prolonged absence reportedly raised concern among members of his family, who later embarked on a search for him.

The search ended with the discovery of his body at the location, after which family members recovered the remains.

Residents in the area reportedly suspected that Fulani herders may have been responsible for the farmer’s death. However, the allegation had not been independently established at the time of filing this report.

The circumstances surrounding Yakubu’s death remain unclear, while security authorities are expected to establish what happened through further investigation.

The incident has again heightened concerns among farming communities in parts of Plateau State over the safety of farmers who venture into remote areas to cultivate their farmlands.
