Troops of Sector 1, Operation SAFE HAVEN? have repelled an ambush by terrorists in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, neutralising one of the attackers and recovering a rifle and other items.
The troops, deployed at Babanla, were on fighting patrol at about 9:47 a.m. on Aug. 18 when they encountered the terrorists at Alabe Idera in Ifelodun LGA.
The troops immediately engaged the attackers with heavy firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
During the encounter, one soldier sustained injuries and was administered first aid.
One terrorist was neutralised during the engagement.
The troops subsequently recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine containing five rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, one Itel mobile phone and one solar panel.
The recovered items were secured by the troops for further action.
The successful response is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities across Kwara State and adjoining areas.
Security sources said troops would sustain fighting patrols and other security operations across their area of responsibility to deny criminal elements freedom of action and safeguard residents.
