Kano Hisbah Begins Medical Screening for 3,000 Couples Ahead of Mass Wedding

By Our Correspondent

The Kano State Hisbah Board has concluded preparations to commence mandatory medical screening for 3,000 prospective couples as part of the state government’s revived mass wedding programme.

The large-scale screening exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 8, and will be conducted simultaneously across all 24 local government areas of Kano State.

Speaking on the initiative, the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Mujahedeen Aminudeen, disclosed that the exercise will involve 1,500 male and 1,500 female participants selected for the mass wedding programme.

According to him, the medical tests are designed to ensure the health and well-being of intending couples before marriage and will cover a range of critical health checks.

“The prospective couples will undergo screening for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, genotype compatibility, drug abuse, gonorrhoea, and other sexually transmitted infections,” Aminudeen said.

He explained that the screening is a key requirement for participation in the mass wedding programme and is aimed at promoting healthy families while reducing the risk of preventable health challenges among newlyweds.

Officials say the exercise reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that couples enter marriage with adequate knowledge of their medical status.

The mass wedding initiative, which has been revived by the Kano State Government, is expected to provide support for thousands of couples while encouraging responsible and stable family life.

Residents and community leaders have welcomed the programme, describing the medical screening component as a proactive step toward building healthier homes and strengthening family values across the state.
