A rising star in youth development, Eng. Hitam Al Zahaf, has been appointed Libya’s Minister of Youth, marking a significant milestone for young leadership in the North African nation.
The appointment, approved by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh of the Government of National Unity, places Al Zahaf—an alumnus of the prestigious Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership—at the forefront of shaping policies for Libya’s youthful population.
Widely regarded as one of Libya’s most dynamic young figures, Al Zahaf has built a strong reputation through years of dedication to youth empowerment, civic engagement, and national development initiatives. His career has been defined by hands-on involvement in programs designed to unite young Libyans, strengthen their skills, and expand their role in governance and community building.
Before his elevation, Al Zahaf held key leadership roles, including Director of the Youth Empowerment Department, where he spearheaded the restructuring of major youth projects and oversaw the Local Youth Councils initiative. He also led the widely acclaimed “Leaders of Hope” programme, aimed at grooming a new generation of competent and visionary leaders.
His track record further includes serving as Director of Youth Programs and Activities, where he chaired the Higher Committee for Youth Camps and contributed to the coordination of national youth events and local council elections—responsibilities that cemented his influence across Libya’s youth landscape.
Beyond national engagements, Al Zahaf has maintained a strong institutional presence, notably within the Libyan Youth Hostels Association, where he championed reforms to improve operational systems and enhance collaboration among youth centers nationwide.
His impact also extends across borders, with active participation in regional and continental platforms such as the Arab Youth Council and the Pan-African Youth Union, reflecting his growing influence within African and Arab youth circles.
Reacting to the appointment, Hassan Ghazaly, founder of the Nasser International Forum, described the development as a moment of pride for the Fellowship and its alumni network.
He noted that Al Zahaf’s rise underscores the success of initiatives aimed at preparing young leaders for decision-making roles across the Global South.
Ghazaly expressed confidence that the new minister would deliver an inspiring model of leadership, capable of empowering Libyan youth and positioning them as key drivers of national development.
The appointment of Hitam Al Zahaf signals a renewed push by Libyan authorities to invest in youth-driven governance, offering fresh hope for a generation eager to play a central role in shaping the country’s future.
