The Governor of Tahoua Region, Souleymane Amadou Moussa, on Monday visited Air Base 401 at Tahoua Airport following a daring terrorist attack on the strategic military installation.
The attack reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday at about 3:05 a.m., when suspected terrorists targeted the base that hosts key assets of the Nigerien Air Force.
Governor Moussa, a Colonel-Major in the military, was accompanied by regional heads of the Saharan Defence Forces and members of the Refundation Advisory Council during the visit.
The delegation inspected affected sections of the facility and assessed the extent of damage caused by the assault.
Authorities said the governor’s visit was aimed at boosting the morale of troops stationed at the base, reviewing existing security arrangements, and ensuring the swift restoration of full operational capacity.
Security sources said investigations into the incident were ongoing, while details regarding possible casualties or material losses were yet to be officially disclosed.
The attack underscores the persistent security challenges facing the Sahel region, where military installations have increasingly become targets of extremist groups operating across porous borders.
