Zulum Appoints Dr Kori DG of Borno Investment Agency, Names Board Members

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has approved the appointment of Sa’id Alkali Kori as the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Borno State Investment Promotion Agency, in a move aimed at boosting investment inflow and economic revitalisation in the state.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, will run for an initial tenure of four years.

Dr. Kori, described as a seasoned entrepreneur and investment specialist, holds a PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences with a focus on Intellectual Capital from the University of London. He currently serves as the Honorary Special Adviser on International Relations and Investment to the Governor of Yobe State and is also the Technical Adviser to the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum.

He is the Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Thinklab Group Limited and also chairs the board of the Nigeria Food Corporation.

According to the statement, Dr. Kori has successfully structured financing exceeding $200 million for major infrastructure projects, including housing, healthcare and road networks.

In addition to the appointment of the Director-General, Governor Zulum also approved the nomination of Laminu Lawan Awana, Abubakar Ahmed Askira and Danladi Alfaki Isa as members of the governing board, representing the three senatorial zones of Borno State.
The appointments were made in line with Section 6(b) of the Borno State Investment Promotion Law 2026 (as amended).

The new board also includes representatives— not below the rank of Director— from key ministries and agencies as ex-officio members. These include the Ministries of Commerce, Works, Housing and Energy, Justice, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Livestock, Planning, Finance, and Local Government and Emirate Affairs, as well as the Borno State Geographic Information Service.

Two representatives from the organised private sector in Borno State will also serve on the board, while the Director-General of the agency will act as its secretary.

Governor Zulum expressed confidence that the newly constituted leadership would strengthen the state’s economic transformation drive.

He noted that Dr. Kori’s experience in investment promotion and development finance, combined with the expertise of other board members, would position Borno as an attractive destination for both domestic and foreign investors.
The governor further emphasised that the agency would play a crucial role in fostering Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and driving sustainable development initiatives across the state.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Spokesperson, Dauda Iliya.
