25 Foreign Ambassadors Storm Katsina for Sallah Durbar

No fewer than 25 ambassadors from European and Asian countries are expected to arrive in Katsina State next week to witness the colourful Sallah Durbar celebrations, popularly known as Hawan Sallah and Hawan Bariki.

The internationally anticipated event, held annually after the Eid festivities, is set to showcase the rich cultural heritage, royal traditions, and hospitality that define the historic northern state.

Officials say this year’s Durbar will be particularly grand, as the presence of foreign diplomats is expected to elevate the celebration into a major international cultural spectacle.

The visiting envoys are expected to observe the traditional horseback processions, royal displays, and cultural performances that have long been associated with the ancient city of Katsina.

The initiative forms part of the state government’s broader plan to promote tourism by showcasing its culture, history, and hospitality to the international community.

Authorities say the Durbar celebration provides a unique opportunity to present Katsina’s rich traditions, historic emirate heritage, and welcoming spirit to the world.

Often described as “The Home of Heritage and Hospitality,” Katsina is renowned for its deep-rooted cultural identity and centuries-old traditions that continue to attract visitors during major festivals.

With diplomats from Europe and Asia expected to witness the spectacle firsthand, this year’s Durbar is poised to place Katsina firmly on the global cultural tourism map.
